pretty pink flowers

My friend asked me to make some cupcakes for her 6 year old's garden-themed birthday party. She pretty much said do whatever, but make it pink. I made tons of pretty pink flowers out of royal icing a few days before the party to let them dry. Then I made vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream and rimmed them with pretty pink sugar crystals and put the flowers on top. Didn't they turn out so cute! The birthday girl refused to eat the flowers, she said they were too pretty! How sweet :)

my first wedding cake

Top tier is red velvet with cream cheese frosting, bottom tier is devil's food cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate ganache filling. The whole cake is covered in white fondant and topped off with black velvet ribbon and beautiful red roses! (Flowers done by Allyson Didlake)

a cake for an announcement

Our most recent fondant cake. It looks like the real thing, doesn't it?

basketweave cake

I finished another cake class last night. This was my finale cake. Buttercream basketweave and royal icing flowers. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.

Little Mini's

Today I made some cute little mini cakes for practice for a wedding cake I'm going to be doing this summer. The bride is debating between buttercream/cream cheese frosting and fondant. The cake will be red velvet, so the choice is really between cream cheese frosting piped like in the second cake or fondant like the first cake. The top is going to be covered with fresh flowers not my teeny little flowers. She's leaning towards the fondant, mostly because it just looks so much cleaner and smooth. The classic debate...beauty or taste?
